another version 2013 [return to]

'another version 2013' draws on much of my work of the preceding two years.

The sonic element is generated by my own intracranial electroencephalograph, recorded at 256Hz from my left temporal lobe and passed through PureData patches outputting rhythm and frequency. This is combined with a voice reading haiku, passed through another Pd patch, to represent the sensation of dysphasia.

Music principles have been applied to the visual element by dividing it into three tonic layers. Each tonic layer is allocated different rhythmic properties, either constant frame rate, or aligned to one of the sonic layers.

I compare the result to:
- the dub remix tradition - the removal of vocal element and the application of sonic distortion to remaining fragments
- the post ictal element of complex partial seizures, and resultant effect on consciousness
